Of late people has been talking about Sheng Ji (生基) or also known as Life Grave. What exactly is a Sheng Ji? In very simple layman terms, Sheng Ji is a Feng shui technique adopted from the Yin Feng Shui or Grave Feng Shui to be used for the living person.

Does it Work?

Thus the question that many people ask is that does it work for the living person? My answer is Yes! So how great is this Sheng Ji thing since many in the past have been taught that Yin Feng Shui is very powerful and sparked the debate about which is stronger, Yang House Feng Shui or Yin House Feng Shui? Where did the public or even some practitioner got that idea from ?

It all began with …… So and So did Sheng Ji so thus why he is the richest in Macau or Hong Kong. This actor or that actress did Sheng Ji and why she is famous now and many other wonderful hopeful promises. I am not going dwell into the specifics on the technicalities of this method but just grossly explain the effects hoping people get the right idea of what is this all about in a complicated world of Feng Shui.

Yin Feng Shui or Ancestral Feng Shui

It has been sometime that I have not written something on Yin Feng Shui or also known as Ancestral Feng Shui / Burial Feng Shui. This is a very important process in the Chinese tradition because we revered our ancestors very much and hence put in the importance of honoring them even after they have completed their lives here on earth.

As we Chinese belief, this is one of the most powerful method of feng shui that can help a family rise to great heights and also cast a spell on the descendants for many years if done wrongly. This is sometimes a scary thing that most people today decided to cremate rather than bury.

Of course cremation also makes better sense in today’s situation simply due to scarcity of land as well as the high cost associated with burial. After cremating, they can put the ashes into a columbarium.

Yin Feng Shui Principles

Yin Feng Shui is very dependent on the land formations and the skill of the Feng Shui master to select the land which is called a Xue spot 穴. The Xue is considered a good spot with the strong and auspicious energy that can prosper the descendants through the bones of the deceased. Many may find this concept hard to accept but it is a fact and today modern science is able to explain.

Before the word Feng Shui was coined, it was known with other names such as KanYu. then when Guo Pu wrote this book to define the Qi or energy in Feng Shui he explains it inside Zhang Shu or Book of Burial.

Briefly the book is divided into 3 major chapters. They are the Inner Chapter, Outer Chapter and the Miscellaneous Chapter.

Ms Tsai Ing Wen, the new president of Taiwan was said to have benefited from the ancestral Feng Shui or Burial Feng Shui. In Feng Shui terminology, it is known as Yin House Feng Shui 陰宅風水. It is called Yin because it is Feng Shui for the deceased & buried under the ground.

This video is a documentary about the history of the parents Feng Shui and some description about the land forms in Mandarin. Her father was a car mechanic and became very rich after his father passed away and had the Feng Shui done by a Feng Shui Master back then in Taiwan.

This is one of the many stories of people enhancing their life with proper Yin Feng Shui done. The land selection criteria is very important in Yin Feng Shui & this is the key to the success of a Yin Feng Shui formation.

Her father’s grave was once planted as a Life Grave or known as 種生基, which later was converted to a Grave after his demise. It was all done with the hope to help the daughter to be someone great in life. You can see very strong Mountain Qi surrounding this tomb.

The word ‘Feng Shui’ derived during the reign of Jin Dynasty (265 – 420AD) when Guo Pu, the author of the book Zhang Jing (Study of Burial Ground) first used it. In the book he says, “The travel of Qi is conducted by air and water. When the air is dispersed, the Qi too is dispersed; when the water is stagnant, the Qi too is stagnant.”

Feng Shui can be classified into the Theory School, which has three different aspects: The San He, The San Yuan and The Nine Star and The Form School with its emphasis on the study of landscaping. The Theory School was practiced more in the North and Central China while The Form School in the South. After the Ming Dynasty they were merged as one to give a wholesome picture and study of Feng Shui, which was until then sort of incomplete.

The entire knowledge of Feng Shui can be divided into Yin and Yang Feng Shui. Yin Feng Shui refers to the study of the Feng Shui of grave sites and burial grounds; whereas Yang Feng Shui refers to the study of Feng Shui of residences and commercial dwellings for living persons.

In the olden days, there was no demarcation on the studies of Yin and Yang Feng Shui as the theories were interconnected and intertwined. Therefore, the complete study of Feng Shui must consist of both Yin and Yang Feng Shui, which are inseparable. We must however remember that Yang Feng Shui is not necessarily derived from Yin Feng Shui and vice versa.

Nowadays, most Feng Shui masters only learn one part on Yang Feng Shui and not the entire knowledge of Feng Shui. In order to be a complete Feng Shui master, one must know both the theories and applications of Yin and Yang Feng Shui.
