Ghost Month And Feng Shui

Over the years, I often get this question from clients and students over the significance of Chinese Ghost month and the Do’s and Don’ts relating to Feng Shui. I think it is about time I address this issue now.

Chinese Ghost month starts from the 7th Lunar month 15th to the 30th day of the month. This is when supposedly the ghost are released from hell and are allowed to wonder on earth.

However, this is just a legend or belief in the Daoist tradition. Of course over the centuries, there were stories where weird incidents happened and lives were lost during this period. Thus, over the centuries it became solidified into cultural belief.

The situation was further reinforced by the spiritual practitioners who also wants to foray into the Feng Shui industry. We classified these as Jiang Hu practitioners similar to street snake oil peddlers. Since they do not know the real techniques of Feng Shui, they can only sell stories to the lay people what they know best, spiritual stuffs.

THE MYTHS

These beliefs brought along taboos such as it is in auspicious to move into new house or undertake renovations during this period etc.

Then the advice of not going out in the night for two weeks or come home before midnight because mid night is when the Yin Qi is strongest and the ghost has the best strengths or rather the fiercest time.

Do not whistle at night or go near the waters because the water ghost will pull you into the lake so that the ghost can take your physical body while your soul will be trapped in the lake.

THE REALITY

All the above has NOTHING to do with real Feng Shui. Feng Shui is about energy of Qi of the house and has nothing to do with the energy of the spiritual realm. It is like confusing Gravity energy with Electro magnetic energy although both of them are a form of energy.

If your house has ghost, will it affect you? Of course but a real Feng Shui master cannot solve this, only a Jiang Hu practitioner can because that is their skill of their trade, spiritual realm.

This is no difference with the common confusion between Psychology and Feng Shui. Claustrophobic is psychological problem but most people think it is related to Feng Shui.

GREY AREAS

Due to all these seeming greyish area allows non lineage practitioners to convince the public and eventually ended up later in bigger problems. Why? This is because they have engaged a “Feng Shui master” who is actually a Jiang Hu person and when the apply the so called Feng Shui remedies, if you are lucky, probably you have a spike of good result, some status quo while some in bad luck, will suffer immense suffering due to bad Feng Shui.

This is like you go to an un registered clinic for an operation. It is no more the skill of the practitioner but rather you are betting on your own luck. Thus when I see a “Feng Shui Master” talking about Ghost month, I know his level of understanding of Feng Shui is Jiang Hu level.

THE FACTS

Feng shui is universal energy that transcends cultures and religion. Whether you are Japanese, Korean, Indian, Russian, African, South American, Indonesian, Kiwi, Iranian, Saudi, Canadian, Swiss etc. it affects everyone in the same way.

You can be a Christian, Catholic, Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim, Daoist etc. still people from all these religion suffer from financial losses, sickness of all kinds, accidents etc. because some of these problems originated from Feng Shui. If you don’t believe me take a walk to the hospital and ask them their race, cultural background and religion. Nature do not discriminate.

To students, if you still have this question in mind and still not able to understand the rational, I know where you stand now in your Feng Shui knowledge. Please do not practice Feng Shui outside your house to limit your bad karmic energy.

Why is it that we cannot perform renovation during ghost month? Is this because the ghost will disrupt the renovation works? I know of many problems that happens outside these 2 weeks window. Most housing developers will not have stopped work for 2 weeks, open your eyes, go check it out! Probably the house you are staying now had the renovation continuing during ghost month too. These are only your psychological fears.

Why is it that we are not allowed to move into the new house. They worry the ghost will follow you back? Well beyond ghost month too there are many cases of spiritual attacks! You don’t see temple medium that only works for 2 weeks in a year, do you? It’s just you have been misinformed.

Again, Feng Shui transcends cultural beliefs and religion, full stop. Feng Shui is energy by it’s own derived from Nature. If you understand this, you have been enlightened.
