When Master Alan announced he will be conducting his first ever course on Plum Blossom Divination, I was pretty excited and signed up immediately. As a former novice learner of another divination system, I found the other system a bit overwhelming. Imagine this, after casting the divination, I have to follow the direction that will be beneficial when I travel to my meeting destination or attempting to find an “advantage” sitting position and or observing special phenomenon… it gets a bit overbearing especially I am not adept at directions !!!
Mid way through the course, I was presented with a professional dilemma and after much pondering decided to use what I have learned thus far to cast the hexagrams and attempting to seek guidance. Luckily, Master Alan’s teaching is very straight to the point devoid of flowery and motivational languages. Master Alan was amused by my attempt but encouraged it on the basis that this will be a case study in the future.
INITIAL GUA
A short synopsis…
We were presented with an opportunity to participate in a strategic tender that shall we win, can potentially provide much publicity and lucrative business for longer term. However, we were faced with competitions that hold current business relationship advantage. From the onset, we are already on the back foot before we started.
In the initial Hexagram, the asker (me) was presented with a non favourable nor disadvantaged situation. It also indicates hesitation on my part to be involved in the tender process. I discussed this with senior management personnel, and we agreed that this will be one tough tender but the decision rest on me to participate or not. After casting and reviewing the hexagram, I decided to go ahead and the reason as to be continued below ….
MUTUAL GUA
In the mutual Gua, the asker (me) is in a favourable position and true enough the end user has indicated their willingness to give us an opportunity to be the main supplier of the project. Before this even take place, it is obvious that we have to submit our tender submission. At the time when the hexagram was casted, I was slightly puzzled on how we can be in a favourable position?
Master Alan words of wisdom (or his constant reminder) comes to mind… “ Heaven will give you a hint of the way, but you will have to make the journey yourself”
After much strategic competitive analysis during the tender process ( or in business lingo- find the gap), it daunted on me that there is an area we hold an advantage against the competitions but one we had overlooked. With that in mind, I take a full plunge into the tender submission with special focus on the “key benefit area”. I advised my direct management that we will participate in the tender and we will clinch the deal in January but we will have to go through various hurdles before we get the final sign off. Some found my comment a bit strange but ….
FINAL GUA
In the final Hexagram, the asker will be in a favourable position but just marginally as the Hexagram indicates potential challenges.
In January 2021, we were advised by the customer that we are the successful tenderer. I was requested to come to their office at the earliest convenience. True to the divination, we were presented with a number of wish list requirements for us to meet at the meeting. We received an initial order ( the contract was split into 2 with the second one the deal clincher) after the requirements were met to customer’s specification. When we thought that the main course deal was clinched after we met the requirements, we ran into yet another final hurdle. Suffice to say, we have to go through some legal and tedious process to satisfy both parties interest. After much fun dealing with the paperwork and processes, we received the official contract.
And that’s how I clinched the deal using Plum Blossom Divination. If I didn’t cast the divination on that faithful day in December 2020 and reviewed the results, we as in a company, would probably not have even participated in the tender.
